What is eyeBuy?
In short, eyeBuy is a mobile Visual Product Search.

The longer version is that eyeBuy Visual Search is an iPhone App which uses the camera feature to visually search for products. Just point, snap, and search! eyeBuy will search for the lowest online prices using several mainstream search engines:

• Google Products
• Yahoo! Shopping
• Bing Shopping
• Amazon
• Local Craigslist sites

 

 

 

 

eyeBuy Visual Search is powered by a massive image databaseto query your snapped photo against. Additionally, eyeBuy has an integrated self-learning mechanism to incorporate those images which returned no results. So the more you scan, the more results you'll see.

Search Engines

Google Products eyeBuy searches Google Products (sometimes called "Froogle") for the US, UK, and Germany, and returns relevant results for those regions. As Google increased their product coverage, we will increase the range of the eyeBuy search to match.

Yahoo! Shopping eyeBuy searches Yahoo! Shopping for the US only. As with Google Products, as Yahoo! Shopping increases coverage, eyeBuy will also increase the region of the search to match.

Bing Shopping eyeBuy searches Bing for the US only. One of the main attractions to using Bing Shopping online is the cashback feature that is granted from Bing. eyeBuy does not currently have this feature integrated. However, it is high on the to-do list! As with Google Products and Yahoo! Shopping, if Bing Shopping extends coverage, so will eyeBuy.

Kelkoo ShoppingSimply stated, Kelkoo is cool. The range covers most major countries in Europe, so eyeBuy decides where you are, and automatically searches the relevant site. In Paris? No problem, eyeBuy has you covered with http://www.kelkoo.fr. And so forth. Great product results too.

Amazon Amazon searching has been marginally reduced in functionality because we've heard rumors that Amazon treats the little guys (like me!) with the utmost disrespect and disapproval. That being said, eyeBuy is going to steer clear of infringing upon Amazons restrictions, so the results are redirected to Amazons website. However, they make it quite user friendly, so no worries on this front. Amazon redirection is region specific, so eyeBuy will match to your country's Amazon site.

Pricegrabber Being a new addition to eyeBuy, I find Pricegrabber to be incredibly useful. It is powered by a great shopping database and is currently enabled for for both the US and UK. Again, if they open more regions, so will eyeBuy.

Craigslist eyeBuy automatically determines your local region, and find the local Craiglist site that is closest. For instance, if you are located outside London, eyeBuy will search Craigslist from http://london.craigslist.co.uk. Pretty cool huh? Same goes for any location in the world! Except maybe Antarctica, as I am not sure there is a Craigslist for Antarctica residents.
